How do I replace an image in WordPress with neoReplace?

With neoReplace you replace an image right where you expect it: in the WordPress media library. An action link appears on the existing media that opens the replace popup. After that you can either select the new file traditionally or simply drag and drop it into the popup.

After uploading, neoReplace replaces the file, creates appropriate new thumbnails and updates the existing references in your WordPress database. As a result, the new image appears automatically wherever the old image was used.

Are old image references updated automatically?

Yes. That is exactly what neoReplace was built for. When replacing a media file, existing references in the WordPress database are updated so the new image appears wherever the old one was embedded.

This is especially important if the file name, the file extension or the image format changes when replacing. neoReplace takes into account content from posts and pages, post meta fields, WordPress options, ACF fields and data structures used by page builders, among others.

This reduces broken image links, faulty media references and unnecessary manual rework.

If the new image has a different resolution than the old one, the number or size of generated thumbnails may change. neoReplace maps the new preview images to the existing image sizes as sensibly as possible so your site can continue to serve appropriate image versions.

Download with Safari

Why do I only see a folder when downloading?

If you use Safari, your Mac might automatically unzip the ZIP file. Instead of the ZIP file you then only get the unzipped folder. You cannot upload that directly to WordPress.

Solution: Open Safari settings and disable the option ”Open safe files after downloading”. After that the ZIP file will remain as you need it.
