Gate Comments with Bitcoin Payments!
Monetise your blog’s comment section by requiring a small Bitcoin or Lightning Network micropayment before a comment is published. When a visitor submits a comment, a payment modal appears inline. Once payment is confirmed via webhook, the comment is automatically approved and appears on the post � no manual moderation needed.
Payment processing is handled securely via Coinsnap or your own BTCPay Server.
Requirements:
- A WordPress website (version 6.0 or higher)
- The Coinsnap Comment Payments with Bitcoin plugin
- A Coinsnap account or your own BTCPay Server
Key Features:
- Per-Post-Type Amounts � Set a different payment amount (in satoshis) for posts, pages, WooCommerce product reviews, and any custom post type.
- Two Payment Providers � Use Coinsnap (no server required) or self-hosted BTCPay Server.
- Inline Payment Modal � The Coinsnap checkout appears directly on the page; no redirect, no friction.
- Real-time Status Polling � The modal polls the payment status and publishes the comment automatically on confirmation.
- Webhook Verification � Incoming webhook payloads are verified with HMAC signature checking.
- Admin & Author Notifications � Receive email confirmation the moment a comment payment settles. Optionally notify the comment author too.
- Honeypot Anti-spam � A hidden field silently blocks bots before any payment logic runs.
- Rate Limiting � Configurable per-IP rate limit prevents abuse.
- Credential Sharing � Automatically inherits API keys from other installed Coinsnap plugins (WooCommerce, Booking Form, Donation, Invoice Form) so you never configure the same credentials twice.

Two Operating Modes:

1. Install from the WordPress Plugin Directory
Search for Coinsnap Comment Payments with Bitcoin under Plugins ? Add New Plugin in your WordPress admin. Click Install Now, then Activate.
2. Install via ZIP Upload
Download the plugin ZIP file and upload it via Plugins ? Add New Plugin ? Upload Plugin.
3. Configure the Plugin
After activation, go to Settings ? Coinsnap Comment Payments with Bitcoin in the WordPress admin.
Using Coinsnap:
- Select Coinsnap as your payment provider.
- Enter your Store ID and API Key from your Coinsnap dashboard under Store Settings.
- Click Save Changes. The connection badge will turn green if credentials are correct and the webhook is registered.
Using BTCPay Server:
- Select BTCPay Server as your payment provider.
- Enter your BTCPay Server URL.
- Click Generate API Key � you will be redirected to your BTCPay Server to authorize the plugin automatically.
- After authorization you are returned to the settings page with the API Key and Store ID pre-filled.
- Click Save Changes.
4. Set Payment Amounts
In the Per-Post-Type Settings card, enable and set a satoshi amount for each post type you want to gate (posts, pages, WooCommerce reviews, or custom post types).
5. Test a Comment
Open any gated post while logged out (or in a private browser). Submit a comment. The payment modal should appear. Complete a test payment to verify the full flow � the comment should be published automatically once payment is confirmed.

Do I need a Coinsnap account?

You can use either a free Coinsnap account or your own BTCPay Server. At least one is required.

Where do I find my Store ID and API Key?

Log in to app.coinsnap.io, navigate to Store Settings � your Store ID and API Key are listed there.

What currency is used for the payment amount?

Amounts are specified in satoshis (sats), the smallest unit of Bitcoin.

Do I need to configure credentials if I already use another Coinsnap plugin?

No. If another Coinsnap plugin (WooCommerce, Booking Form, Donation, or Invoice Form) is already installed and configured, this plugin will automatically inherit its credentials.

Will existing comments be affected?

No. The payment gate only applies to new comment submissions after the plugin is activated and amounts are configured.

What happens if a payment is never completed?

The comment stays in a pending/unpaid state and will not be published. You can manually approve it from the WordPress Comments admin screen if needed.

Can I exclude certain post types?

Yes. Each post type must be explicitly enabled in the Per-Post-Type Settings card. Post types with no amount set (or set to 0) are not gated.

Does this work with WooCommerce product reviews?

Yes. Enable the WooCommerce post type in Per-Post-Type Settings and set an amount. A payment badge is added below the review form to inform customers.
